Middle School daily schedule & yearly highlights at Bethany lutheran

Middle School at Bethany is a time of growth, discovery, leadership, and new opportunities. Students begin each day in homeroom before rotating through a variety of teachers for core classes, specials, and electives. While their schedules become more diverse and their independence grows, one thing remains constant: each day begins and ends with prayer.

Our Middle School students are also given meaningful opportunities to serve and lead. Each day, our 8th graders take responsibility for raising and lowering the American and Christian flags. They serve during chapel as acolytes, assisting the Pastor, and as Chapel Family Leaders, helping guide and encourage younger students in their faith.

Throughout the year, Middle School students enjoy experiences and traditions designed especially for them. They serve their community through projects such as cleaning up Modaff, our 6th graders spend a week immersed in outdoor education at Walcamp, and our 7th and 8th graders have the opportunity to experience history and government firsthand on a trip to Washington, D.C. Being a Middle School student at Bethany comes with incredible opportunities—and important responsibilities!

Students also enjoy getting off campus for special experiences, including our annual Careers & Manners Luncheon, where they practice dining etiquette while enjoying a meal and learning from community professionals. Their God-given talents shine throughout the year—in athletics, concerts, fine arts, and on the stage.

The school year culminates in Middle School Awards Night, where students are recognized for their academic, athletic, leadership, and fine arts accomplishments. For our 8th graders, the year ends with one of Bethany's most cherished traditions: graduation in our beautiful sanctuary. The evening includes valedictorian and salutatorian speeches, a meaningful sermon from one of our pastors, and a festive celebration as we send our graduates into their next chapter.

It is always bittersweet to say goodbye to our 8th graders. We are proud of the young men and women they have become and confident that they are ready to spread their wings and use their God-given gifts wherever He leads them next. And because our Bethany students know they will always have a home here, they love coming back to visit—and we love seeing them again!

Our itenary for Washington D.C. is incredible! The students and chaperones visit so many sites over the course of four days. Stops include the National Mall and Washington Monument, Ford’s Theater, Arlington National Cemetery, Iwo Jima & Pentagon Memorial, U.S. Capitol Building, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, the Museum of the Bible, the Air and Space Museum, and the National Archives!
