Describe the path to your current vocation.

Growing up, my parents encouraged me to be independent and choose an occupation that I love.  My parents also taught me to be outgoing, strong, and confident in what I believe and say.  I knew I would choose an occupation that would utilize these characteristics, as well as my communication and organization skills.  When I looked at Sales or Teaching as a career, I soon realized that Teaching was my calling.  I begin babysitting and taking care of little ones early on.  I was quite comfortable around children and really enjoyed helping them learn new things.  I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Minor in English from Elmhurst College in 1992.  Later, I earned my Colloquy from Concordia University, Chicago.  This upcoming school year will be my 24th year of teaching.

When did you become a Lutheran?

On April 12th, 1970, I was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Lombard, Illinois.  My pastor, parents, both sponsors, family, and many friends witnessed me being brought me to the font.  I still have my baptismal certificate and the cloth that was used at the baptism.  Both my boys were baptized at this church, as well.

What do you love most about your job?

I love how we are all a family at Bethany!  The staff, parents, and children are all part of this Bethany family.  I have experienced the love and support of this family many times since 1995 when I began teaching here.  We share the "everyday activities," but more importantly, we share weddings, birth of babies, baptisms, moves, illness, and even the death of our family members and friends.  We know each child's family, personally, allowing us to work as a team in the child's physical, academic, and spiritual life.

What was your longest or most favorite road trip?

My longest road trip was to Florida after I graduated college.  I drove down with my entire family.  We rented a van to accommodate us all.  My dad decided to drive straight through, while I forced myself to stay awake and talk to him to make sure all was o.k.  I have very fond memories of that summer and cherish the drive and the vacation, too.

What are your hobbies?

I love hanging out with my family and doing just about anything!  I love the batting cages, mini-golf, movies, swimming, biking, eating out, and working out at the YMCA.
