5/4 Friday Journal Report
Patriotic Party
We had a blast celebrating the Red, White and Blue with our Patriotic Party to end our unit on America's history and symbols! We played a patriotic tag game and then came inside to enjoy a star-spangled treat. Thanks to all the families who made our party possible!
Statue of Liberty torches
While learning about American symbols, we learned that Lady Liberty was actually a gift from France and that she was originally copper brown! We each made our own Statue of Liberty torches to celebrate this symbol of friendship and freedom.

Curriculum Fair
It was so much fun to share our projects and the stories behind them with you at the Curriculum Fair! We also really enjoyed challenging our families to the Cotton Ball Olympics.
Buddies
For a buddy activity this month we shared our Curriculum Fair projects with each other and then enjoyed looking at the other projects in the gym with our 5th grade buddies. We even got to watch the championship round of the 5th grade's Native American game tournament!
Junior Achievement
Our first Jr. Achievement session discussed the ideas of goods and services, and producers and consumers. We explored assembly line production by "making" donuts as a team. We definitely enjoyed our treat of real donuts at the end too!
Measuring with feet and inches
We practiced measuring our height with both feet and inches. We first estimated each other's height and then we worked with a partner to mark our height on the wall and then to use rulers to measure.

2. Do you know which family member(s) were immigrants? If so,
- Who were they?
- What year did they immigrate to America?
- Why did they come to America?
- Did they bring anything special with them to remind them of their homeland?
3. Are there any foods or traditions you and your family enjoy from your ancestor's countries? If so, what are they?
4. Choose 1 other custom or tradition that you and your family do and tell about it.
