Packing Peanut crosses

Last month in Social Studies we learned that there is an alternative way to make packing peanuts that uses a renewable resource instead of the traditional Styrofoam ones that are made from oil and aren’t biodegradable. This week we discovered that they are made from potato starch and can actually dissolve in water! As an introductory activity to our unit on creative ideas, we revisited the design process to make a cross sculpture. The only material we could use was potato starch packing peanuts, and they only way to connect them was to lick them and stick them together. Check out their awesome work!
