Hats Off to You
Hat Day during Lutheran Schools Week!
Camp Way-Too-Hot
As part of our Science unit on Matter and Materials, we had to determine which type of candy would be best to send to our friend at Camp Way-Too-Hot so that it wouldn't melt. We tested 4 different kinds of candy, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, gummy bears, and Sweedish fish, to see which ones fully melted, partially melted, or stayed solid. Our conclusion was that Sweedish fish would be the best choice to send!
Howdy Partner!
Check out this collection of the most wanted cowboys and cowgirls!
Laura Ingalls Wilder Assembly
We enjoyed hearing about Laura's life and work as a writer. Lillian even got to learn a barn dance with Laura!

States of Matter Art
We did the first step in our States of Matter Snowman art project on the 1st day of Lutheran Schools Week. We used a balloon (solid) inflated with air (gas) to dip in paint (liquid) and stamp snowballs onto the paper.

Mitten Materials Lab
While learning about properties of materials in Science, we tested 3 materials to see if they were insulators or conductors. We tested aluminum foil, cloth socks, and styrofoam to see which materials would protect our hands from feeling the difference between the hot and cold water bottles.
Week 20 Sentinel
Mad Hatters Materials Lab
In Science we're learning about matter and the properties of materials. Our Mystery Science adventure left us stranded on a desert island with only a few supplies. We tested our supplies to determine which ones would absorb sweat, be lightweight enough, and protect us from sunburn. We them constructed our hats using the materials we determined to be most useful, based on their properties. We then enjoyed a hat fashion show!
Packing Peanut Crosses
To introduce our Creative Ideas reading unit and experience being an inventor, we used potato starch packing peanuts to go through the design process. We had already learned in Social Studies about how these packing peanuts are better than the traditional ones made from styrofoam but now we discovered that we could lick them and stick them together! With our partner, we planned how we wanted to make our cross, we constructed them, tested them and adapted our designs, measured them, and enjoyed sharing and analyzing our classmates' creations!
Recess is SNOW much fun!
We enjoyed being back at school after Christmas break and being able to play in all the snow!
