We worked to determine how many faces, vertices, and edges each of our solid figures had.

Independent readers!

Planet projects
After becoming an expert on 1 inner planet and 1 outer planets, we got to sponge paint paper plates to create each into a planet. We then wrote and attached our facts to each plate. Here you'll see 1 of each student's projects, but they are all on display in our classroom, and will remain there for Curriculum Fair!
Word work
We worked on words that end in (consonant)le by matching them up at the syllable break.

3/16 Friday Journal report
Planet research
Each of us got to pick an inner planet (Mercury, Venus, Earth or Mars) and an outer planet (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus or Neptune) to become an expert on. We worked in groups to find information from a book and got to choose which facts we thought were the most interesting.
Solar powered windmill
We experimented with solar energy by putting together a solar-powered windmill. We had fun experimenting with it outside! It was spinning very quickly but the pictures didn't capture the motion!

A-Z Mysteries Character Dress Day
For the final day of our New Year Dragon Dilemma novel study, we enjoyed dressing up as one of the characters from the book.
Pictographs
Today in Math we practiced reading and creating pictographs with a scale of 2. This served as foundation to demonstrate multiplying and dividing by 2, including with halves! We worked as groups to determine how many pockets were in our group. We then graph each group's results.
Day/Night
While studying the Solar System, we modeled how the Earth's rotation on its axis causes day and night. We then experimented what would happen if the Earth rotated to the west, instead of the east. We are always truly amazed by God's creation during Science class as we continue to learn about His marvelous world!
Dragon parade and Chinese New Year party
We enjoyed taking our dragons around school on a parade, visiting each class, and sharing what we learned during our Chinese New Year unit. It's always fun to quiz each of the older grades to see what they remember! The older students love to join in with us on our song too. After the parade we stopped by our artwork in the hallway to take a class picture and when we returned to our classroom, there was a delicious feast waiting for us! After our feast, we had fun taking pictures at the dragon photo booth. Thanks to all the parents who helped make our party possible!
Tangrams
We experienced the Chinese tradition of story-telling using tangrams to create the people or animal characters. We then challenged ourselves to create the original tangram square, which legend has it, an emperor had his guards do when he dropped a piece of glass and it broke. After much perseverance, and a few hints, we all accomplished this great challenge of 2nd grade!
Dragons
Our finished dragons have so many creative details that really bring them to life!
