Pattern Block Fun

In Math we each used pattern blocks to cover the exact same design. We then counted up how many of each block we used. As a class, there were 11 different block combinations used, but even in duplicate combinations, there were no duplicate placements of those blocks! We were amazed at just how many ways there were to use our blocks to cover the same shape outline!

Word Work

In Spelling we worked on digraphs. We played “Digraph Elevator” and the ‘h’ had to travel up and down the floors to get to the consonant it needed for the given word.

Pattern blocks

In Math we learned the names of the pattern block shapes, made designs, walked around to look at everyone’s designs, and analyzed how they used the different shapes.

First days!

Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year! This week in 2nd grade we spent a lot of time learning and practicing new routines, procedures, and expectations. But, we also made some time to get to know our new classmates and play some games! Here we are playing Back and Forth, a math game, and working on our Find a Friend hunt.

Remember that your child brought home 3 stapled packs of unused Saxon math pages.  These are great to review what we did and preview some 3rd grade math concepts.  Children also have all their addition and subtraction fact cards to use at home.

I encourage you to do your library's summer reading program.  Remember that there are also several reading activities/ideas that were in your final report card envelope.
