Christmas!
Enjoy some pictures from our Christmas program night and our class Christmas party.
Advent wreaths
One of our December projects was making advent wreaths to keep at home. The students worked hard cutting, tracing, and gluing to create this keepsake. Throughout the project, we also learned about the colors and words of Advent that the candles remind us of.
Week 18 Sentinel
Measuring with feet
We practiced using people feet to measure distances. We quickly saw this gave varying results and understood the need for a standard system of measurement. We then worked together to measure the same distance using our rulers to measure feet.
O Symmetry, O SymmeTREE
In Math we learned about a line of symmetry. To practice creating and identifying lines of symmetry, we folded paper and drew half of a tree. By leaving it folded and cutting it out, we ended up with a symmetrical tree. Then, we painted only 1 side of the tree, folded the paper, and pressed down to transfer the paint, thus creating a symmetrical design too!

Main Idea turkeys
In preparation for Thanksgiving, we reviewed the lives of Pilgrim and Wampanoag children using a non-fiction article. We analyzed this article to see how it relates to the organization structure and colors we’re learning about in writing. We worked together to make an outline of key words and information from the article. Finally, we each made a turkey to tell a main idea, some details, and a conclusion based on what we learned in the text.

Ordering Numbers with our Eyes and Hands
In Math we practiced sequencing numbers individually, and then merging several individual sequences into 1 group sequence. However, we were only allowed to think with our eyes and our hands while working as a team. We were not allowed to talk!
Mountain experiment
We looked at where rivers flow and then conducted an experiment to see where rivers start. We made mountains and then sprayed several “rain showers” on the mountain to see where the rivers appeared and how they flowed.
