Main Idea and Details Consensus Board

In Reading we are learning about the Desert habitat and practicing identifying main ideas and details. While we listened to the book Desert Giant- The World of the Saguaro Cactus, each student wrote down details on their sticky note. After the book, students got into groups to share their details with each other. After all details were shared in the group, group members had to come to a consensus to create a main idea sentence for the book. Each group then shared their work with their classmates.

Attribute Train

We use attribute shapes to learn the 3 ways (or attributes) to identify each one: color, shape, and size. To make this attribute train we challenged ourselves to use all the shapes. Each shape that got added on had to have 2 attributes the same as the one before it, and 1 attribute that was different. See if you can check this group’s work!

Seed Dispersal lab

We made 3 different examples of seeds. We each experimented to see which direction the seed should point, so that when dropped, it would avoid landing the “The Zone of Darkness” (the shady spot under the parent tree where it wouldn’t grow). Mrs. Janetzke did the final test, based on how we told her to drop it. We then analyzed the seed structure to see which design best allowed the seed to fall away from the tree.

Exercise lab

We conducted an experiment to see what happens to our heart rate when we exercise. We also looked at how our heart works and why it’s important to keep it healthy and strong! Click here for a video clip!

Fluency practice

We got to work on our 1st ever fluency read and highlight activity to practice our phonics skills as well as our reading fluency!

Favorite Day of the Week Graph

In Math we practiced identifying weekend days and week days. We each got to pick our favorite day of the week and draw a picture to show why we like it. Then, we took our pictures to create a class pictograph which we get to analyze.
